Employment Drug Screening FAQ
There are many people that do not know why companies screen their workers for drugs. However, this is a way for companies to not only keep the work place safe, but to keep their workers safe too. It is said that 70% of drug users have a full time job. That means that you more than likely work with a drug user. That is not a safe feeling for everyone, and in order to keep you safe, a lot of places do drug screenings. As long as you work for a company, they have the right to ask you to take a drug test, and if you refuse, they hold the right to let you go.
Companies in the Untied States of America are very interested in keeping drugs out of the work place. Drugs do not only effect the quality of your work, they effect the people around you. These companies do not want to give their image a bad name, and when you have workers on drugs, it does just that. To help keep drugs out of the work place, when you get hired most palaces will have you take a drug test. However, that does not mean that you are not a user, that just means that you were not taking drugs a few weeks before you took the test. Thus, many places will issue random drug screening to make sure their workers stay clean. So you may ask why they do a random drug screening. This is because if they warned the workers before they gave the drug test, the workers would have time to stop taking drugs, and let it flirter out of their system. Doing random drug tests is the only sure fire way to make sure you are getting real results.
Using drugs in the work place is starting to become a major problem in some businesses. Thus, this has increased the need to run random drug tests. In fact, it is said that 23% of Americas use drugs while they are on the job. Companies do not want to pay you to do drugs, they want to pay you to work. It is also said that almost 58% of all work related injuries came to workers that had been using drugs. As you can see, it is reasons like this that drugs are not allowed in the work place. This is also the reason why they have random drug tests. Random drug tests, I feel, are a good thing. I feel like random drug testing should be given to people that work part time as well. This is because most teenagers only work part time, and a lot of them are the ones using drugs on the job.
As you can see, taking drugs does not only effect you like you may think, it effects everyone around you. If people did not do drugs, it would save the companies a lot of money, because they would not have to run drug tests. Running random drug testing is not something that comes cheap. This is costing money out of the company's pocket, and thus, it is taking money away from you. In the end, you are only hurting yourself. So the next time you apply for a job, and they ask you to take a drug test; or you are at your job, and you hear that they are doing a random drug test; you will know why. It is their way of keeping the work place safe.
